So, its not a smiley face band-aid, but I'll take it;o)

My prayers were answered and my nose is still a nose. I only had to go through the Mohs procedure twice and they went deeper, not wider, so I didn't need a skin graph. They put dissolving stitches on the inside and about 7 stitches on the outside that I will have removed next week. I will have about a 1/2 inch vertical scar and my right nostril will look a little different then the left, but I can totally live with that! I am over the top happy and so glad to have yesterday over with.

Thank you for all the kind words and well wishes. I carried them with me and it kept my spirits up.

Next step... They have scheduled a full body scan for the beginning of February to make sure I don't have it anywhere else. If they don't find anymore, there is a 98% chance that I will be skin cancer free!

The "C" Word

There are two words in the english dictionary that I absolutely hate. Both of them start with the letter "C" The first is a horrible word that I hope I'm never associated with and the other is one that I prayed I'd never have. Unfortunately, a week ago I was labeled with one of them and tomorrow I undergo a surgical procedure to hopefully get rid of it.

I am fortunate that malignant Basal Cell Carcinoma's are rarely fatal. Unfortunately, they can be very disfiguring and mine happens to be smack dab in the middle of my face. Quite honestly, if it was on my ass, I wouldn't be half as freaked out as I am tonight, but it isn't and I have to deal with the fact that as of tomorrow morning at 9:30 a.m., my face is never going to look the same again. This might mean that I am forever going to have a small indentation on the side of my nose or it could mean that a lot more tissue will need to be removed and leave me with less than a nose, cheek, who knows... I won't know until they get in there and start the procedure.

I am having "Mohs" surgery. For those of you unfamiliar with this procedure. It is where they dissect the area where the tumor is and a small perimeter of tissue around it. That tissue is removed, cut into four equal pieces, frozen prepared on a slide and then looked looked at under a microscope. If I am fortunate, there won't be any cancerous cells in the surrounding tissue and they can close my wound, stitch me up and send my on my way. If it turns out that there are more malignant cells in the surrounding tissue, they go back and repeat this procedure until the slides do come back clean. This process can take from just a couple hours to an all day process. I am praying I will be out of there by lunch.

Basal Cell Carcinomas grow rootlike extensions that spread under the skin and can go pretty deep. The good news is that it is a slow growing cancer, the bad news is that I have had this cancerous lesion for over 3 years and never ever in my wildest dreams thought it was skin cancer. I just thought I had a plugged pore. So, the little bugger has had quite some time to grow unbeknownst to me.

So, my message to all the wonderful people in my life is PLEASE get your skin checked regularly. If I hadn't gone to the dermatologist for some acne I was experiencing, I never would have known I had it.

There are so many thoughts and questions swimming around in my head right now (and for the past week of sleepless nights.) I am sure most are irrational, but they are my genuine none the less...

Am I going to be horribly disfigured? If so, will my husband ever look at me and think that I am beautiful again after tomorrow? Will they want me to continue on in my present position if I end up looking freakish? Should I resign as a Glambassador for Glamour? Am I a horrible person for being so vane? What if it has spread? Could this be the beginning of the end?! I know, I know that I'm being overly dramatic, but I would be lying if I said those thoughts haven't crossed my mind. My husbands uncle had a gaping hole in his face where his nose used to be and my best friend lost her life to a form of skin cancer that ended up in her brain. Both extreme cases and both not likely to be completely different then mine. But, I can't help but go there in my mind.

My prayer is that tomorrow I am going to be horribly embarrassed for being so dramatic and over the top scared in my disclosure and that I will have this ridiculously little wound with a single stitch and a smiley face bandage when I return home an hour later. Until then, thank you to all my dear friends that have shown much love and support for me. It truly means the world to me.
Goodnight, sleep tight.

Life has been Crazy, but good Crazy;)

Since I last made an entry I have made huge changes in my life. All for the better, yet very stressful.

I have left my position as Manager at my studio Full Circle to take a position with North Central College in Naperville where I am now the Assistant to the Fine Arts Department. I still am Co-Owner (which I am trying to change as well), but no longer involved on a day to day basis. That is the part that is most stressful for me. My business partner is a genious when it comes to music, production, engineering, but not so much an office man...lol.

My first week on the job at NCC was a whirlwind of activity. I had a lot to learn in a short amount of time. On my 6th day of employment I was "Thrown to the wolves", but in a good way. I excepted the challenge, believed I could handle it, and I did. It was a great confidence booster, as I was feeling quite vulnerable. I truly believe that if you believe in yourself and your abilities, anything is possible.

I will blog more about my experience as the liaison between The Pointer Sisters and the College, but in a nutshell, I took care of all their very "Specific" needs.

During this week, I also got an invitation to an offer from Glamour Magazine to "Represent" and Partner up with the Company "Plan B" and hit some shwanky beach parties on the East Coast. (The Hamptons, New Jersey Shore, and Rehoboth Beach to be precise:) The deal is I get to head out there for 2 or 3 weekends between July 4th and Sept. 6th. All expenses paid, plus pay. Not a bad deal for a fun weekend. I love being a Glambassador!
The catch is that I am not sure I could do 2 or 3, but I want to do at least 1. I have to wait and see what they say. The odd thing is that at precisely the same time, my husband may be on the opposite side of the country (LA to be exact) for possibly 2 months between July 19th and Sept. 2nd.

My son Danny graduates this Wed. from High School We have various Scholarship events we need to attend in his honor, one of my other sons moved to Normal, IL to take a position as a leasing agent, another son came home from Normal as school is out for the summer. So, not to much going on in my world right now....

I'll catch up with this blog soon. I promise!!!

Failing Miserably....

Well, my promise to myself to blog on a DAILY basis has definitely gone astray. As it stands now I am 10 days behind which equals 50 items I would need to catch up. While I am sure I can come up with 50 items that I am grateful for, it wouldn't be as genuine. I will instead list the first 10 that come to my mind from 3/17 to 3/25 (I plan on blogging at the end of the day tonight.)

1. Numerous offers for scholarships and grants for my son Danny's college.
2. Coaches that seem to genuinely care about my son and his academic career, not just as a player for the team.
3. The opportunity to apply for a position that I REALLY would like to get.
4. A positive note from the company I have already interviewed with expressing interest in me.
5. Some nice sunshiny days.
6. My Tulips pushing through the ground getting ready to fill my gardens with beautiful color.
7. My adorable puppy and her genuine, pure love for me when I walk in the door :)
8. My TAXES ARE DONE!!!!!
9. My FAFSA(s) are filed
10. MY TAXES ARE DONE!!!!:)

You have to understand... With me owning my own business and my husband being a self-employed entertainer, we have W-2's, W-3's, multiple 10-99's and the horrendous job of having to sort all the receipts, divvy up mileage amongst all the different accounts, etc... I first have to take care of all the business taxes before I can even start our personal taxes. I couldn't hand it over to an accountant if I wanted to until after I have that whole process accomplished. Once I have that all done and I get everything in order, I give it to my accountant to go over, make sure I am not forgetting anything, find deductions I might be missing, etc... and then pay him a lot to do so. It is the hardest non-paying position I have ever had. I have a great respect for anyone that willingly takes on this position as a career choice. I realize that a good acct. can make buku bucks, but you couldn't pay me enough....

That is all for now!
